The
Clwydian Ranger
Leisure Bus Network

(Timetables)

On Sundays and Bank Holidays from May to September there is an excellent network of bus routes around the Clwydian Range, starting at Chester and Shotton rail stations and extending as far as Barmouth and Betws-y-Coed.

The adult Clwydian Day Ranger ticket is valid on all services shown in the timetable booklet for just £3.50. It is just £1.75 for holders of any senior travel pass and FREE for holders of the Welsh Cerdyn Cymru.

On Sundays, the 1001 train from Bidston has an excellent connection at Shotton for the Moel Famau viewpoint, the 10X service which departs at 1033 from the stop opposite the Clwyd Hotel (turn right after leaving the station). Coming back it leaves Moel Famau at 1625 and arrives at Shotton Station at 1713, just perfect for the 1729 from Shotton to Bidston.

These buses also call at Loggerheads Country Park, where other services link to Ruthin via Bodfari - for Offa's Dyke walkers - and over the Horseshoe Pass to Llangollen and these connect at Loggerheads with the bus to Shotton (dep 1645) coming back. There is no need to take the train from the southern end of the line to connect into these services: one of the above routes to Loggerheads is itself from Wrexham via Caergwrle.

The Loggerheads to Llangollen bus forms a service to Barmouth - with about half an hour's break in Llangollen - and then goes from there to Rhyl where it connects with yet another route from Rhyl to Caerwgrle and Wrexham. Or you can take the X94 directly back to Wrexham: on Sundays, even this forms part of the Clwydian Ranger network.

From the Wirral, longer distance tours require a return connection from the X94 into the 1901 train from Wrexham Central to Bidston. (The bus stops opposite the fire station in Bradley Road behind Central Station, which you reach by walking through the Argos loading area and car park.)

The connection to Betws-y-Coed is also at Llangollen and the Clwydian Ranger day ticket is even accepted on certain Snowdon Sherpa buses into the heart of the National Park.
